When Truth Becomes The Threat

There’s a damaging dynamic that can take hold within families, relationships and close groups: a reversal of roles where attention is redirected away from what is actually happening, and towards the person who finally speaks up about it.

The person causing the harm claims to be the victim. The person who challenges what is happening is made to seem like the problem. And when the narrative begins to shift, you can find yourself questioning not only how others see you, but your own judgement of what happened.

But what happens when you stop trying to convince others and turn your attention back towards yourself?

What do you know to be true, beneath all the questioning and doubt?

And what might you be holding onto simply because letting go feels difficult?

I've explored this dynamic in greater depth in my full essay, When Truth Becomes the Threat, on The Worth Project Substack.

And if this speaks to an experience that has left you questioning yourself, your judgement, or your sense of worth, perhaps a little space to make sense of what is no longer worth holding on to might help.
